Running with Mike Tyson

If only to get me in the habit of blogging more often, I thought I'd start blogging my some of my running dreams.

This one after waking up from a late afternoon nap, in between overnight shifts:

I got a friend request from Mike Tyson on facebook. Since I'd never met him, I initially clicked the button to ignore the request. I recently had decided to stop accepting requests from runners I'd never met. (In my real facebook life, I keep getting these requests. Sometimes I wonder why some runners want to be facebook friends with all other runners. I really do find this curious.) But realizing he was really famous, and probably a nice guy, I regretted my initial decision and sent him back a friend request, hoping he hadn't taken offense for my rejecting him earlier.

As it turned out, Mike wanted to friend me because he was training for his first half marathon. He wanted someone to help him train, someone who could run with him while still having the breath to be his drill sergeant to work him hard as he put in his miles. Soon enough we were pounding the pavement together, he working up a furious sweat as I screamed and cussed at him, like Marine Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley (Louis Gossett, Jr.) in An Officer and a Gentleman.

Luckily Mr. Tyson never took any of this personally. I would be in a sorry state he got pissed off and took his anger out on me.

Unfortunately, I woke up before we even got close to the race itself. He was going to kick ass.

HAAAAAAAA!!!!!

BTW, Trish is bewildered by the friend requests she gets from Ultrarunners that _I_'ve never met in person.

I hear you about the Facebook friend requests. Very curious indeed.
You should watch the movie "The Hangover" for more about running with Iron Mike (and his Tiger) ;-)
